Mechanical meters give water away for free
With battery powered mag meters you don’t under-bill and don’t give away water for free!
Isoil’s battery powered mag meters have no moving parts so they are extremely reliable. They are not affected by wear, corrosion, debris, build-up or catastrophic failure. So there is no under-reading as with mechanical meters.
Accuracy Characteristics of Mechanical Flow Meters in Operation
Mechanical meters tend to under-read over time due to wear and tear, and debris fowling the meter causing breakages to the mechanisms. This under-reading means you are giving water away for free.
Mechanical meters are calibrated by positioning a vane which adjusts the water’s angle of impact on the propeller blades.
Pebbles wedged in the meter’s input structure will play havoc with the angle of the water flow and severely affect accuracy.
Even a small piece of debris wedged in the turbine will make the meter under-read.
Mechanical meters damaged by stones and debris resulting in severe under-reading or complete stoppage.
If the meter’s internals are removed for checking and calibration and the debris and stones are cleaned out in the workshop the meter will perform much better than it did in the field!
Based our experience acquired of carrying out many field checks using our portable ultrasonic flow meter, we found that most mechanical meters are under-read by -1.5% to -100%. S
Therefore the accuracies seen in the workshop give a misleading picture of mechanical meter accuracy in operation!
Battery powered magnetic meters are unobstructed. They are immune from wear and tear, fowling or blockages which are so common with mechanical metes.
