There has been a major problem in obtaining reliable DO measurement in activated sludge because of the fouling of the sensor. Many solutions have been proposed, but up until now none have been really successful.
A breakthrough has been made in sensor cleaning by ATI with their ‘air blast’ AutoClean system, which periodically scours the sensor membrane with pressurised air.
The system is so effective that normal preventative inspections and a calibration check every six months are all this is needed. Calibration is quick and accurate using ambient air and barometric pressure as references.
Numerous systems have been operating in South Africa since 1997.
