Clamp-on Ultrasonic Flow Meters for Clear Liquids

Fuji’s Clamp-on, Non-contact Flow Meters are ideal for measuring flow of clear liquids with absolute minimum down-time and maintenance.

Fuji’s clamp-on ultrasonic flow meters are ideal for clear liquids in full pipes.  Applications include water, acids, alkalines, hydro-carbons, chemicals - virtually any liquid which has no or a relatively low levels of particles or air bubbles.

Fuji is a pioneer in ultrasonic flow measurement with an installed base of more than 450,000 units. The Time-of-Flight principle is ideal for clear liquids. Fuji’s major advantage is the meter continually calculating the sonic speed of the sound wave in the fluid being metered and automatically compensating for changes in fluid temperature or pressure.  And Fuji’s anti-bubble measurement algorithm enables measurement even with entrained gas bubbles of up to 12% by volume.  Consequently, the Fuji meters perform extremely well both in flow laboratories and also in the challenging real applications encountered in factories and plant. These applications include highly corrosive liquids, pulsating flow, viscous liquids, oils and extremely high-pressure applications.

Normal accuracies are ±0.5% to 1% of reading on pipelines of 13mm to 6,000mm in diameter. Accuracies of up to ±0.23% can be achieved where the pipe is sound and dimensions are accurately known.

The Fuji ultrasonic flow meters are suitable for a wide range of flow conditions including fully developed laminar or turbulent flow in fully-filled pipes.

Advantages of Clamp-on, Non-contact Flow Meters

  • Do not come into contact with the liquid.
  • Easy to install, commission and maintain.
  • Installation requires no plant downtime.
  •  Ideal for both portable and fixed applications.
  • Line size has little influence on price.
  • With no obstruction to flow, no pressure drop and virtually no maintenance, the life-cycle cost of ownership is extremely low.
  • Easy to retro-fit to existing pipes

Portaflow – Fuji’s Portable Ultrasonic Flow Meter for clear liquids - FSCS

The battery powered Portaflow has a large, clear LCD display for flow rate, totalised flow in both directions, site details and diagnostics. Flow data can be logged and displayed or downloaded onto a PC using Fuji’s user-friendly software. The analogue outputs give real-time flow readings. There are hundreds of Fuji Portaflows operating in South Africa.

The Fuji Portaflow is widely used for checking and calibrating flow meters in situ. It has been calibrated at Eskom’s SANAS-approved laboratory to an accuracy of +0.32% RMS (certificate UO8UC9065-1).

Fuji Fixed Clamp-on

Ultrasonic Flow Meter

Fuji’s fixed ultrasonic flow meter is built to the same basic specification as the Portaflow. The electronics are wall mounted in an aluminium alloy IP67 housing; sensors are available with submersible or high-temperature options; flow data, system parameters and diagnostics are shown on the 16-letter, two-line LCD display; flow rate is transmitted by a 4-20mA output and flow volume by pulse output; and the RS232C interface gives efficient connection to PCs, networks, telemetry systems, etc. The fixed ultrasonic flow meter has been calibrated at Eskom’s SANAS-approved laboratory to an accuracy of +0.30% RMS (certificate UO8UC9040-1).
