The Greyline Clamp-on Ultrasonic Flow Meter is ideal for measuring flow in pipes where the liquid contains air bubbles or suspended solids.  The Doppler technology bounces ultrasonic waves off the air bubbles and solids and the electronics calculates volumetric flow.

The big advantage of the Greyline Doppler flow meter is that you simply strap the flow sensor onto the outside of the pipe.  So there is not down-time and no interruption of your process.  The meter does not come into contact with the liquid.  With no obstruction to flow, no pressure drop and almost no maintenance, the life-cycle cost of ownership is extremely low. 

The Greyline ultrasonic flow meter is available in a fixed configuration for permanent installations.  The portable version is supplied in a robust carrying case and it ideal for surveys, testing installed meters and temporary measurement.

Typical ultrasonic flow meter applications are aerated liquids, slurries, acids and pulp stock.  In fact, their best flow applications are those that would defeat regular contacting flow meters! The Greyline meter is suitable for pipes from 25mm to 4 500mm in diameter and flow velocities from 0.08m to 12.2m/sec. Accuracy is typically ±2%. For best operation the liquid should have solids or bubbles with a minimum size of 100 microns and minimum solids concentration of 75ppm.  There are hundreds of Greyline flow meters working in many industries in South Africa, especially on slurries and effluent.”

AREA VELOCITY FLOW METERS - AVFM

Measure flow in part-filled pipes and open channels without weirs or flumes

Area velocity flow meters are the ideal solution for measuring flow in partially filled pipes and open channels.  Ground water flowing in open channels or part filled pipes is normally metered using weirs, flumes or the Manning formula.  Weirs and flumes frequently erode or silt up making metering misleading.  The Manning formula model is strongly affected by changes in the channel conditions.  Down-stream obstructions also lead to dramatic over-reading by all these metering methods.

Area velocity flow meters are the ideal solution for measuring flow in partially filled pipes and open channels.  Greyline is a world leader in this application and there are many hundreds of Greyline Area Velocity Flow Meters measuring flow in Southern Africa.  Greyline is a leader in all formats of water metering.

How It Works

 

  • Level is measured by an ultrasonic sensor which can be mounted at the bottom of the channel, externally above the channel, or by a pressure sensor in the channel.
  • Flow velocity is measured by a submerged Doppler sensor which is ideal for most surface water, waste water and effluent applications or alternatively by a non-contract laser sensor which is ideal for waste water and effluent.
  • These measurements, combined with the stored data of the geometry of the channel give volumetric flow rate.

Fuji is a pioneer in liquid flow measurement with an installed base of 360 000 units. The Time of Flight principle is ideal for clear liquids. Fuji’s anti-bubble measurement algorithm enables measurement even with entrained gas bubbles of up to 12% by volume. Normal accuracies are ±0.5% to 1% of reading on pipelines of 13mm to 6 000mm in diameter. However, accuracies of up to ±0.23% can be achieved where the pipe is sound and dimensions are accurately known. The Portaflow has a large, clear LCD display for flow rate, totalised flow in both directions, site details and diagnostics. Flow data can be logged and displayed or downloaded onto a PC using Fuji’s user-friendly software. The analog outputs give real-time flow readings for recorders or control systems. There are hundreds of Fuji Portaflows operating in South Africa.

The Fuji Portaflow is widely used for checking and calibrating flow meters in situ. It has been calibrated at Eskom’s SANAS-approved laboratory to an accuracy of +0.32% RMS (certificate UO8UC9065-1).

Fuji’s fixed ultrasonic flow meter is built to the same basic specification as the portable unit above, but with the following differences: The electronics are wall mounted in an aluminium alloy IP67 housing; sensors are available in submersible, high-temperature or explosion-proof options; flow data, system parameters and diagnostics are shown on the 16-letter, two-line LCD display; flow rate is transmitted by a 4-20mA output and flow volume by pulse output; and the RS232C interface gives efficient connection to PCs, networks, telemetry systems, etc. The fixed ultrasonic flow meter has been calibrated at Eskom’s SANAS-approved laboratory to an accuracy of +0.30% RMS (certificate UO8UC9040-1)
